Story of a Bronze - 7
Removing the Shell
About half an hour after 'the pour', the shell can be removed to reveal the bronze. This is carefully but forcefully done - having been fired twice, the ceramic shell is almost as tough as concrete.
The bronze itself has also contracted slightly, thus detailed areas tend to grip the cermaic shell.Occasionally, if appropriate, a form of shot-blasting may be used to clear all the grains of the ceramic shell from the crevices of the piece.
